Straight Outta Compton
There is no denying the impact that NWA had on the Rap scene when they burst onto the world stage in 1988.
While they were labelled as controversial and offensive, their lyrics struck a chord with the people they represented. And they quickly became the epitome of Gangsta Rap.
The movie, directed by F. Gary Grey, follows the group as they emerge from the mean streets of Compton in Los Angeles, California, in the mid-1980s and how they revolutionized Hip Hop culture with their music and tales about life in the hood.
Its a true testament to the talent of Eazy-E, that even over 20 years after his death in 1995, his art, like his life, still has such an impact on the genre of music he helped to define.
Although not without its own controversies (mainly around which parts the group chose to leave out) the film has been well received and we highly recommend it.
